Hi..
I would like to ask 2 questions.
1.
I watched an amazing film called *Man On Fire* & every timne someone
died, there was a beautiful song. It had no words, just a woman singing.
It sounded like chanting.
2. What are the lyrics for *Natasha's Song* in *Gideon's Daughter?*
All I can rememer is, "I never was your shame". Apparently
this song has a story behind it. I think it is about a woman who killed
herself aged 21, but I don't know any more. I want the story behind
it with the lyrics. Can you help me?
1.
Lisa Gerrard is the lady in question, she sang "The End Music"
and the title song 'Man On Fire'
2. "NATASHA'S SONG" is a much longer answer ..

Hi!
This may sound strange but I'll go ahead with my query anyway. I'm from
Perth, Western Australia and I bought a LP record here in the 1960's
of Soul music which consisted of a number of popular songs going around
at the time such as "My Girl" & "Land of a thousand
dances". The Artist(s) were a couple of bands playing together
with their singers alternating on different songs. I no longer have
the Album but I do remember two names :- Tony Hallet and Night Train.
My question is this: Would the band "Night Train" be the same
as the one do gigs in England these days and would that album be still
available?
The LP, with various 60's soul artists, including
Artists.. The Night Train, Tony Hallet, Stu Smith... and more.
Songs.. My Girl, Midnight Hour, Last Night, Land of a Thousand
Dances, Respect etc etc.
"THE GOLDEN HITS OF SOUL"
It is on a Spanish site. .. Not sure if it is a shop or auction site,
or even if the page is old or new. http://www.todocoleccion.net/lote.cfm?Id_Lote=2728364
BUT at least you know the LP and you could keep a watch out on Ebay
for it.
Night Train may've been one of the 60's soul bands on the UK Northern
Soul Scene of the days.

could you please tell me what song is played in the back of Black Eyed
Peas song : Pump It.
many thanks.
The song is a traditional greek song called "Misirlou",
which Dick Dale and The Del-Tones recorded way back in 1962! You may
remember it from the film 'Pulp Fiction' (1994) as well as in the hip-hop
version by the Black Eyed Peas's "Pump It". If you look on
the credits Dick Dale should be on. There are quite a few guests on
BEP's songs on the Monkey Business album.. Sting, Justin Timberlake,
James Brown, Fergie, Jack Johnson and of course Dick Dale! Just a little
extra note The song "Misirlou", was also recorded in the 1980s
by Greek garage-rock band "The Last Drive".

I am hoping you can help me with the following.
Do you know where I can get a copy of a Bellamy Brothers song called
memorabilia. Do you have any ideas about this song the lyrics that I
sort of remember are............. (I go through the first door theres
a party going on) ....during the song there are three doors, that's
all I can remember. I hope this is enough info to go on.
The song, 'Memorabilia' by Bellamy Brothers was
a track on their 3rd album: "Plain & Fancy" released in
1977. Can't see that it has been put on CD anywhere, but you can buy
it through Ebay on L.P. and you can copy it onto a CD or get someone
to do it for you, which I would do!! or
you can keep checking Amazon .. they may re-master it on CD

NOT FULLY ANSWERED! I'm
trying to find out the name of a piece of music. I guess it is soul/jazz.
The only lyrics to the music is "let the music play on"
and "Let the vibes flow through" It's not a dance record but
a very mellow summery type of song. It is sung a male artist and I believe
this piece was released in the nineties.
At the moment the only track that comes to mind
is a year 2000 Barry White club MIX
"Let The Music Play"
(Meedom & Trust Beach Mix)
Jon K thinks it
might be a version of "Feel the Vibe" (I found there are 6
versions. )
Email suggestion - Lional Ritchie's 'All Night Long'

There
is a Christmas song that is from the 60s era, I believe, that starts
out with "J-I-N-G-L-E" It isn't the traditional Jingle Bells
song but one that a female group sings and they spell out the word jingle.
It's an upbeat tune. I don't know any more lyrics so I know this is
a tough one. If you could help me out I'd appreicate it.
I found
this at a site about christmas songs and who sings Jingle Bells:
"The most interesting version of the song Ive heard is Frank
Sinatras where the back up singers spell J-I-N-G-L-E
at the beginning of the song. Not sure but I think Nelson Riddle was
the arranger but could conceive he would have come up with such an innovative
introduction."
big thanx Wild Rozzie
who sent this answer in.
So it
looks like it may be The Nelson Riddle Singers who did this interesting
redition!

Can you tell me anything about the beginnings
of UK single chart,
a bit of history?
It was called the Top Ten Hit Parade.. the New
Musical Express printed the very first chart November 14th 1952. Al
Martino with "Here In My Heart" was the first No.1. The founder/joint
owner of NME, Percy Dickens compiled the charts by phoning round a selection
of record stores each week. Then in October of 1954 the charts became
the TOP 20; on December 30th 1955 it became the Top 25 for just one
week before becoming The Top 30. Then on March 10th 1960 Record Retailer/Music
Week began to compile the charts until it became an independant audit
January 3rd in 1963. The first televised charts.. Top Of The Pops..
charts countdown was 6.35pm Wednesday January 1st 1964, presented by
the legendary Jimmy Saville.

I saw a young woman perform on Lettermans Latenight show a couple
of weeks ago. I came in after she had started. She
was unusual, eclectic, played all the instruments herself including
a keyboard and assorted looping machines etc. Thoughts?
It
could have been Beth Orton, she was due on Dave Letterman show early
this year, end of Feb time. She is a singer/multi musician/songwriter,
plays great guitar, piano, keyboard, harmonica.

Hello, I am a big Funk Brothers & James Jamerson fan. One question
that I had was if it was either he or Babbitt that did a song called
"The Streetbeater" or otherwise known as the Sanford &
Son theme. This has been on my mind for quite a while now.
Great Quincy Jones track, Streetbeater ... but
it wasn't the Funk Brothers or James doing the bass tracks, it was the
also great Chuck Rainey on bass. This can be verified on his website
Big Thanks To Gavin

I am looking for a female group that remade george micheals song Teacher.
I believe they came out with the song in 1999, I had bought the cd in
1999 and it got radio play at Fort Lee, Texas. PLease help this is driving
me crazy.
Received two emails, who both think you are thinking of the George Michael
track called "One More Try"... as "teacher" is mentioned
in the song a lot more than one more try, covered by girl band DIVINE.
Their album 'Fairytales' can still be bought on Amazon.
Big Thanks To Jon

Can you help? Im trying to think of great rock bands who regularly
used two drummers. The only two that come to mind are The Grateful Dead
and The Allman Brothers. There must have been others, right?
Just off the top
I can think of The Doobies and Dream Theater. Also Phil Collin's band
often has 2 drummers (himself and another). The sensational Santana
has drummer, plus congas/percussion, plus another percussionist/timbales.
Does anyone know more??

Please can you tell me if there were any UK chart topping singles that
didn't enter the charts at number one in 2004?
Only 1 single I think .... DJ Casper - "Cha
Cha Slide", released on March 2nd, reached No1 w/e March 20th.
All the other releases got to No 1 the first week of release. Except
Britney Spears she missed out by a day or two, but I think it went in
at No 1.

Who made Night Train famous in the late fifties or early sixties
You maybe thinking of the James Brown version.
He recorded "Night Train" in 1962, for King Records, chanting
out the names of cities from Boston to New Orleans on his tours. Jimmy
Forrest co-wrote and recorded "Night Train" (pinching a riff
from Duke Ellington's "Happy-Go-Lucky Local") and had a top
10 hit with it
in 1951. In 1956 Buddy Morrow covered it
and scored a pop hit. Then James Brown covered it in 1962.

There are only two songs in popular music where the title of the song
is never mentioned until the very last words and even then is only mentioned
that one time. One of them is "Virginia Plain" by Roxy Music.
I don't know the other one. If you can answer, please email me. Thank
you.
The other is George Michael's 1987 hit "One More Try" U.S.
Chart: 1. ~ U.K. Chart: 8. It was a hit
song from the album Faith.
The title is not sung until the very last 3 words, and the only
time they are sung in the whole song. The last verse being:-
And teacher
There are things
That i still have to learn
Hut the one thing i have is my pride
Oh so i don't want to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because there ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Who just isn't willing to try
I'm so cold inside
Maybe just one more try
There
are 3, one being "Up The Junction" by Squeeze

There are 4, The Rose by Bette
Midler ~ thanks Paul Clare

Who was the first white Tamla Motown Artist?
Debbie Dean (Reba Jeanette Smith) was the
first white female artist, joining Motown in 1960, recording
(Don't Let Him) Shop Around / A New Girl (accompanied by The Miracles)
- 1961; Itsy, Bitty, Pity Love / But I'm Afraid
(Marvin Gaye on Drums)
1961; Everybody's Talking About My Baby/ I Cried All Night - 1962.
Motown's
first white group., The
Valadiers were signed to Motown in 1961.
White guitarist Joe Messina joined Motown in 1962, he was part
of the Funk Brothers Band.
He is on most of the big Motown hits.
White female blues singer Chris Clarke joined Motown in 1963,
she cut 2 demo's with Motown, but sent back to work on the reception!
She recorded her first single, "Do Right, Baby, Do Right",in
December 1965, which was written and produced by Berry Gordy. It also
featured the background harmonies of The Lewis Sisters. That single
was followed by "Love's Gone Bad" (July 1966) which became
her only R&B chart entry. With this success Chris was required to
promote the record, presenting Motown with a problem... they had to
admit she was White!
There were white female artists Connie Vandyke and Teena Marie, Teena
prob the most successful.
If anyone knows of any earlier white artists please let me know.
By the way the first white Motown artist to enter the UK charts and
first white artist to reach No 1 anywhere was Canadian R. Dean Taylor
in 1970 with "Indiana Wants Me". I think most people wrongly
think him as the first white motown artist. BUT he did some ghost writing
for/with Holland Dozier & Holland earier on in the 60's.

With his No.1 slots earlier this year, Elvis has

had 17 chart topper's in the UK & 20 chart topper's in USA. So both
Elvis and The Beatles did better in the charts outside their own countries!!

Depends where you
live. If in the UK the BBC Radio1 website, USA go to the Billboard site,
Australian charts are listed at the Australian Record Industry Association

Usually if you go to your countries main radio station's site you will

Why
were there so many musicians not given credit back in the 50's and 60's
it seems so unfair to them and us?
There were no laws to say they had to, one reason
was that a lot of the bands didn't actually play instruments, only portrayed
as musicians eg. The Monkees. Record companies would hide the fact that
studio musicians provided this on their million selling discs...
there are many scams in this world!!
Record companies invested a lot of money grooming, image making and
selling their frontmen. Basically it was down to money! Most R.C.s had
a stable of musicians, very good ones, who were a bit like a factory
machine. Some studio musicians didn't mind, enjoying the variety and
prefering that life to one on the road. However The Musicians Union
[US] changed all that in 1973, the musicians had to be credited if they
wanted to be... rightly so too, we dance to the music!
Many session musicians today are brilliant stars in their own right
as they should be.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Have sessions in the studios when they make a
record always been called this?
Once, they were know as a record dates, normally
lasting 3 hours,
after which a studio musician would be paid by the half hour.
